Graduate Essay Prize 2021: Winner Announced

Five really strong papers, each holding ground on its own merit, were shortlisted for the PG Essay Prize. They were from a range of disciplinary backgrounds, but there was a clear winner in the end. The authors of the shortlisted papers were: Thilini Meegaswatta, S. Alam, Hanna Geschewski, Kavita Dattani and Catharina Haensel.

The winner of the Graduate Essay Prize this year is Kavita Dattani for her paper, ‘The public-secret of digital dating apps in Mumbai’, a highly original paper on digital dating apps bypassing the societal regulation of dating and sexual surveillance in Mumbai, and offering some fascinating insights from her fieldwork. The paper stood out for its elegant framing and sound analysis as well as theoretical sophistication of arguments.
