BASAS Master’s Dissertation Prize 2025: Call for Submissions

Submission Deadline: Monday 7th July 2025 by midnight (BST).

The British Association for South Asian Studies is delighted to announce the 2025 BASAS prize for an outstanding Master’s dissertation on a South Asia-related topic. We welcome submissions in any discipline of the arts, humanities, or social sciences. Judges will pay particular attention to the quality of research, understanding of the topic and field, originality, presentation, and methodological rigour.

Eligible dissertations will be on any topic relating to South Asia or its diaspora, must be no longer than 20,000 words, and submitted in fulfilment of an MA/MSc/MPhil degree undertaken at a UK institution between 6th July 2024 and 4th July 2025.

The successful candidate will be awarded a prize of £200 and a one-year of membership to BASAS. The winning candidate will also receive a complimentary registration to the BASAS Annual Conference 2025. An edited version of the prize-winning dissertation will be considered for publication in one of the BASAS-affiliated journals, Contemporary South Asia or South Asian Studies (subject to editorial consideration and peer review). Shortlisted entrants will be awarded a one-year complimentary BASAS membership.
